On Teaching #1
In my teaching of International Relations, I focus on giving students a thorough understanding of international relations, just like they would get in a top-level Masters program. We dive into both the theory and the practical methods of the field. It's important for my students to know the history of world politics and how to do their own research.
In class, we use a mix of research techniques when necessary, as well as engaging discussion and getting you to share your understandings as you evolve your knowledge. Whether it's looking at numbers and quantitative approaches or looking at behaviours and phenomena in international relations, the goal is to prepare for both advanced studies and professional work. We discuss everything from the history of international relations to the latest debates.
I make sure our learning is interactive. We work together in class and you also study on your own which is imperative to giving yourself the chance to become your own scholar. This way, you really get to understand the complex ideas and learn how to use them in real life as well as getting the skills needed to work in a team.
My aim is for you to leave the class ready for anything, whether that's more study or starting your career in international relations.
In my classes, we explore the world of international relations and politics. We start by understanding the formation of our modern international society, unraveling the events and ideas that shaped it. We then delve into strategic studies, learning about defense policies and security strategies of nations.
Our exploration continues with the international relations of the developing and post-colonial world, discussing the unique challenges and dynamics they face. We also focus on the complexities of East Asia's international relations, understanding their significant role in global politics.
Another key area is U.S. Foreign Policy, where we analyze America's interactions with the world and its global impact. We also dive into the intricate themes of Israeli society and politics, uncovering the nuances of this region.
Moreover, I place a special emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region, examining its growing importance in global geopolitics. We look at the strategic interests, economic dynamics, and diplomatic relations within this vibrant and diverse area.
Each topic is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of global politics and prepare you for a future in international relations.
Naturally I have my areas of expertise, and of course we will acknowledge our innate Australian and Western perspectives in the process. I am passionate about the history of the ideas for which we operate in with International Relations and politics.
Truly there are so many tremendous classes and topics to cover, both historical, conceptual, theoretical and future focused. Thatβs why your experience matters as well as the skills which we impart with you when youβre learning about international relations and politics.
